Two United States sailors have been formally charged for rape of a Japanese woman on Oct. 16.
Christopher Browning and Skyler Dozierwalker, both 23-years-old, admitted to Okinawa police that they were involved in the sexual assault and injury, according to The Japan Daily Press.
Additionally, prosecutors are charging Browning with robbery. He was found with 7,000 yen ($87) that is assumed to be that of the rape victims.
Both men were drunk when they attacked the woman around 3:40 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Later that afternoon they were arrested by police at the off base hotel. The two men were there because they were preparing to be transferred to Guam later that evening.
CNN reports, the Okinawa prosecutor’s office declined to comment on the indictment and would not provide a statement.
In 1995, a United States sailor and two Marines were convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl. A few months ago a Marine was arrested and accused with assaulting and molesting a woman. Just recently an airman was arrested for breaking into a home and punching a 13-year-old.
Also, Okinawa residents are concerned by the Marines using the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. These have a reputation of crashing, which has concerned many residents.
