Seventeen injured in a Tuscaloosa shooting

Seventeen people were injured in a shooting in downtown Tuscaloosa, Alabama this morning.

WAFF reports the shooting happened at the Copper Top Bar shortly after 1 a.m. The gunman fired into the bar and also shot at people as they tried to exit the building.

There are five people still hospitalized. One person is in critical condition, one in serious condition, and three are in fair condition, said Brad Fisher of the DCH Regional Medical Center.

According to Tuscaloosa News, the area near 23rd Street and 4th Avenue are closed so police can photograph and collect evidence.

There will be a press conference at 10 a.m. at the Tuscaloosa Police Department. There is also a video on the department’s website of a man carrying an assault rifle.

The gunman is still on the loose and thankfully there have been no deaths because of this incident.

Riley Dunn, a senior at the University of Alabama, was at the bar and was injured that night.

“We were all just shooting pool and hanging out,” said Dunn, whose leg was bandaged from what he described as a shrapnel-like wound. “It was kind of loud from the music, but we heard the gun shot and no one really knew what to think. The first gunshot took place, then about 20 seconds later then that’s when he really started firing them off. After that everyone really scattered.”

There is no information on who the shooter is or a motive for the shooting.
