A 13-year-old boy shot and killed his grandparents because they called his mother a whore and “were speaking poorly about her.”

According to The Associated Press, Zachary James Proper, of Oil City, Pennsylvania, was charged with criminal homicide in the shooting deaths of his grandparents Dorothy and George Fross.

A criminal complaint was received by troopers in northwest Pennsylvania because Ryan and Karen Kapp, Proper’s parents, were concerned that he was high and drunk and he had stolen a car that belonged to his grandparents. The Kapps called the police because they were concerned about the Frosses, due to the fact that they could not get a hold of them, and Proper had told them that “his friend had shot and killed his grandparents,” according to the complaint.

NBC News reports that Proper admitted to killing his grandparents. In an affidavit it stated what the boy did. He used bolt cutters to get into the gun safe at his grandparents’ home. He then took a handgun out, put on his earphones and snuck behind his grandmother and shot her. After that, he called his grandfather to tell him he would help him carry groceries. Upon his arrival, Proper took the pizza from his hand and shot him until the gun jammed.

When police asked him about his motive he responded by saying “that he was mad at his grandparents because they had called his mother a whore and were speaking poorly about her.”

Proper told police he took his grandparents’ car, had put the gun in a storm drain, and went on to party with his cousins.

The AP also reports that the interview with the police had ended when the attorney for the boy and his parents had told them to stop speaking with police.
