The last gunman from the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai was hung in the city of Pune early Wednesday morning.

Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, 25, was executed after his mercy petition was rejected by the Indian president, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The interior minister, R. R. Patil Maharashtra, announced the hanging in a televised news conference.

K. R. Ramamoorthy, 73, was tied up and held hostage during the attack at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower. He said Kasab’s execution gave him little consolation because Kasab was only a small part of a larger conspiracy.

“While it is true that he has taken the lives of many innocents, he was brainwashed by others into feeling it was his duty,” he said.  ”It is the people who indoctrinated him, those who masterminded the attack, who should be brought to justice.”

Kavita Karkare, a widow of Hemant Karkare who was killed during the attacks while his anti-terrorism squad tried to pursue Kasab, said, “This is an incomplete justice as the masterminds and main handlers of 26/11 are still absconding. They should also be hanged.”

Since the attacks, Pakistan has failed to bring the others involved to justice which is still causing frustration with India, according to The Associated Press.

Kasab and nine others entered Mumbai by a boat carrying cell phones, grenades and automatic weapons. They targeted two luxury hotels, a Jewish Center, a tourist restaurant, and a train station.
