Newsweek is going digital only after being in print for 80 years.

According to USA Today, editor-in-chief Tina Brown said that the December 31 issue will be its last.

Newsweek was sold in 2010 by The Washington Post to businessman Sidney Harman for $1, due to financial obligations.

Brown stated, “We are transitioning Newsweek, not saying goodbye to it.”

“This decision is not about the quality of the brand or the journalism — that is as powerful as ever,” Brown said. “It is about the challenging economics of print publishing and distribution.”

NBC News stated that in a joint statement from Brown and CEO Baba Shetty said, ”Tablet-use has grown rapidly among our readers and with it the opportunity to sustain editorial excellence through swift, easy digital distribution…This decision is not about the quality of the brand or the journalism—that is as powerful as ever. It is about the challenging economics of print publishing and distribution.”

The decision to go all digital is not a surprise. In July, Barry Diller, the head of the company that owns Newsweek, had stated they were figuring out the future of the weekly print magazine.
