Maine and Maryland approve same sex marriage

For the first time ever during a vote, same sex marriage had been approved in Maine and Maryland.

Human Rights Campaign president Chad Griffin said, “We have made history for marriage equality by winning our first victory at the ballot box.”

Washington are still waiting for the result of the vote. Six states and the District of Columbia have legalized same sex marriage through the court or legislation, but voters have rejected in more than 30 times, according to The New York Times.

In Minnesota, the amendment was to limit marriage strictly to a man and woman. There is already a law banning same sex marriage but they are trying to make sure the courts and legislation cannot reverse it.  That measure was rejected, according to CNN.

Washington is looking a little better as it seems to have more people supporting same sex marriage. The results could be in by the end of the week.

A majority of Americans are now having a change of attitude towards same sex marriage.  In the 1990s many people did not know anyone close to them who was gay but by 2010, many Americans said they knew someone who is gay. Right now, more than 60 percent of people know someone who is gay.
