Pregnancy rumors are making everyone wonder if the first lady of North Korea is expecting.
Ri Sol Ju, wife of Kim Jong Un, has been out of the public eye for about two months, according to North Korea watchers. Recent pictures only show her back and she is wearing a long coat to what some suspect is hiding a bump, according to CNN.
The South Korean media is speculating on whether she is pregnant or been out of the public eye due to disciplinary measures for a perceived slight. It is rumored that she has fallen out of favor for not wearing a lapel pin of the former leaders, which is required for all adult North Koreans.
Huffington Post reports that Ri was announced as Kim’s wife in July 2012. An insert for the Associated Press says:
“As a welcoming song resonated, dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, supreme commander of our party and people, appeared at the inauguration ceremony together with his wife, comrade Ri Sol Ju.”
With that sparse description, the typically close-lipped North Korean government revealed to the world that the mystery woman seen beside Kim at public events over the last several weeks was indeed his wife, as had been speculated. No details were given, but South Korean media reports said she is a former singer and cheer squad member and that they married in 2009.
North Korea’s state media has still not said when the couple actually got married and if they have any children. South Korean intelligence states that they already have one child.
According to Korean Yonhap news agency, she had been seen on inspection tours throughout the country with her husband, before disappearing for two months.
