On Wednesday, a Florida judge set the trial date for George Zimmerman to June 10, 2013.
Zimmerman is charged in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, according to USA Today.
Martin was a 17-year-old, unarmed kid who was walking to his father’s house in a gated Stanford community when he was shot and killed.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty and states he did it in self defense. Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, is charged with perjury for allegedly lying about the family finances at Zimmerman’s first hearing. Her next hearing is set for December 12.
Even though Judge Debra Nelson set a date, Zimmerman’s attorney stated he did not know when they would be ready for trial, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Zimmerman’s defense tweeted that he will most likely seek a hearing under the “stand your ground” law.
The judge who will hear the case is expected to start hearing civil and divorce cases in January but she will keep this case. She stated she is doing this so she will have more time for hearings.
Attorneys for both sides will be in court on Friday for the discussion of discovery issues, subpoenas for Trayvon’s school records, and motions to keep the facts of the case public.
