A man on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list was arrested in Mexico on Friday.
Joe Luis Saenz faces charges of murder, kidnapping, and rape. He has been returned to Los Angeles after being arrested in Guadalajara, according to The Associated Press.
Saenz had shot and killed two rival gang members in July 1998 as retaliation for an assault on one of his associates.
Sigrieta Hernandez, who was the girlfriend and mother of Saenz’s daughter, was kidnapped, raped, and killed by him because he thought she was going to tell police about the murders.
It is also believed that Saenz killed Oscar Torres in October 2008 because he did not repay $600,000 in drug money to him. That money was seized by police after a traffic stop. Cameras at Torres’s house showed Saenz murdering him and injuring another.
CNN reports that the Mexican federal police, Mexican National Institute of Immigration, Mexican attorney general and the FBI’s legal attaché in Mexico City and Guadalajara were all involved in the finding of Saenz.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca said, “This individual, Jose Saenz, will be brought to justice. We will find him and prosecute him to the full extent, under the law. Make no mistake about it.”
