Torres said, “Camacho is clinically brain dead. The Tests showed a flat line without any type of activity.”
Doctors met with his mother and family members on Friday to discuss the options left.
ESPN reports the Camacho’s son, Hector Camacho JR. said the decision to take his father off life support was up to God.
"Papi was a great fighter, a warrior and now he is fighting for his life, and we have to let him fight until the end," Camacho Jr. told reporters.
CNN reports, he was taken off life support and suffered a heart attack, Wilmelis Marquez the spokeswoman for Rio Piedras Medical Center said. He died at 1:45 a.m.
Camacho was shot in the parking lot of a bar on Tuesday. His friend was carrying nine small bags of cocaine and there was another bag found opened inside of the car. The friend, Adrian Mojica Moreno, was killed in the shooting.
At first doctors thought his prognosis looked good and that he would survive. His condition got worse throughout the night and his heart stopped at one point. The bullet entered his jaw and was logged in his shoulder. It tore through three or four main arteries in his beck and it is affecting blood flow to his brain.
"That lack of oxygen greatly damaged Macho Camacho's brain," Torres said.
Marquez said Camacho’s organs could not be donated because they were not healthy enough.
