An American Airman stationed in Okinawa broke into a Japanese apartment and assaulted a sleeping teen.

According to Stars and Stripes, the incident occurred after midnight on Friday. The base has a curfew due to an alleged rape in Okinawa just last month by two sailors.

The police were called to the Yomitan Village pub to deal with a “rowdy and uncontrollable” Airman. Police arrived and found an airman based on the Kadena Air Force Base injured due to a fall from a third story.

Shortly before the police arrived, a white male entered the third floor apartment above the bar and punched a 13-year-old in the face and kicked over the television. Residents of the building say the male then fell from the third floor. It is unknown if the fall occurred from the airman jumping from a window or balcony.

According to CNN, Japanese authorities will lodge a complaint with the United States. The Japanese Foreign Minister, Koichiro Gemba, said the incident was outrageous.

U.S. ambassador to Japan is also very upset about the incident. “Let me be absolutely clear: I am very upset — it’s an understatement to say I’m very upset.”

He said the military is “undergoing a complete review of the liberty policies and other policies that will minimize, if not eliminate, any such incident in the future.”
