American journalist Austin Tice is missing in Syria and his whereabouts are unknown.

Tice’s parents Debra and Marc have not heard from their son since August 13, according toThe Daily Star Lebanon.

He was reporting for several American newspapers when he crossed into Syria from Turkey. The family has not been contacted by anyone about where Tice is located or who he is being held by.

In September there was a video uploaded to YouTube that showed someone who looked like Tice surrounded by several armed men shouting “Allahu Akhbar” which means, God is the Greatest, escorting a blindfolded Tice.

CNN reports Tice’s family members have been in touch “directly and indirectly” with government officials in Syria.

Tice’s parents are willing to go to Syria to get their son back if need be.

Tice’s father said, “We ask whomever is holding Austin to treat him well, to keep him safe and return him to us as soon as possible. Again, anyone that hears this, anyone that can help us find Austin, talk with him and get him back safely, please send us an e-mail.”

Victoria Nuland, U.S. State Department spokesman said they have no idea where he is but have asked Poland to help. Poland had represented the interests in Syria for the U.S after the closing of the American Embassy in Damascus.

“Austin is a cherished son and beloved brother,” Austin’s mother said. “If he were your son or brother, I ask, what would you do to find him and return him to your family?”
