4-year-old dies at memorial basketbal game
A 4-year-old was killed after a bullet struck him in the head at a Bronx playground on Sunday night.
NBC New York reports that gunfire started at about 9:30pm at a playground in the Forrest Houses in Morrisania.
Lloyd Morgan was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Two other men were also injured in the shooting. One was shot in the stomach and the other in the arm.
“When my friend didn’t see her kid, she panicked,” said an observer. “Then she saw him on the floor, shot.”
The crowd was out watching a basketball game in memorial of a 15-year-old girl who had been stabbed to death one year prior, according to the Daily News.
There will be a rally to call for the end of violence at 5:00pm.
Eric Stevenson, a Bronx Assemblyman, is asking for anyone who knows any information to step forward.
“We can’t tolerate this any longer. Those who know these people need to step forward,” Stevenson said. “It’s not about snitching. It’s about protecting lives of 4-year-olds. And those who know in this community need to step forward.”
“Those who are doing these horrendous crimes are going to be caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he added. “You’re taking the lives of young people. You will be taken out of this community.”
